Welcome to Capitol Hill Lutheran Church - a Des Moines Lutheran church in the historic East Village.
Capitol Hill Lutheran members
come from all walks of life. We are a Des Moines, Iowa, Lutheran church that
attracts people throughout the metropolitan area. As our Welcome suggests, our
forbearers came from Sweden, Norway, Germany, Latvia, India, Vietnam, Liberia,
the Sudan, and Mexico, but we are all one in Christ. As a member of the ELCA,
we are a Des Moines church ready to grow in fellowship with you.
We believe we are here to know Christ and to make Christ known. We do this
through:
Worship
Come to a Chapel worship at 8:15 AM, or a more traditional Lutheran service at 10:30 AM. Worship and study
are also offered in other languages. Our Iowa Vietnamese worship service is
held at 9:05 AM followed by an Iowa Sudanese worship service at 10:30 AM. Music
is a hallmark of Capitol Hill Lutheran worship, and we have been blessed with
many professional musicians who share their gifts in service at our Des Moines
Lutheran church.
Fellowship
From small group ministries --
book club, pizza lovers and dessert and a movie, to name
just a few -- to church wide dinners and community events like Music in the East Village concerts,
Julefest and our July ice cream social and fireworks, Capitol Hill members
enjoy getting together.
Education
Classes are offered for ages 3
through adult. Bible Buddies Sunday School program for all ages is held weekly at 9:20 AM, with other
opportunities throughout the week for Bible Study in small groups or class
settings.
Outreach
In addition to work with Vietnamese and
Sudanese immigrants, Capitol Hill Lutheran provides ESL classes, life skills
classes, soup dinners during Lent, and Sunday morning breakfasts. We are active
partners with HOPE Ministries, Churches United Shelter, Des Moines Public
Schools, and East Village merchant and neighborhood associations.
